Why every Canadian dealership will have an AI receptionist by 2027

April 22, 2026 · 6 min read

Voice AI quality crossed a real threshold in late 2025. The synthetic voice is now indistinguishable from a human one inside a 60-second test-drive booking call, and the per-minute cost has fallen far below what a part-time receptionist costs to staff.

For most independent Canadian dealerships, that math now works in only one direction. The phones rang 47 times last Tuesday after hours. Twelve of those calls went to voicemail. Two of those twelve voicemails were inquiries on a 2023 Camry XSE that was already reserved by a different shopper.

The cost of those missed calls — measured in lost test-drives, not just lost calls — adds up to a five-figure number per month for a 200-vehicle rooftop. AI receptionist is the cheapest way we know to bring it back to zero.

The DealerMatrix Voice AI module picks up in two rings, recognizes the topic (inventory, service, financing), runs an inventory lookup live during the call, books test drives directly into the rep's calendar, and posts the full call transcript + sentiment to the lead's CRM record. It speaks both English and French. Setup takes about 30 minutes and a Twilio number — that's it.

We ship it on the Pro plan. If you're on Starter and want to try it for a month, email support@dealermatrix.ca.
